Actor and Writer

John Paul is a multifaceted actor and writer based out of Los Angeles, CA. He most enjoys the voiceover work he does for animation, video games, commercials and industrials. Although there must be a foundation built from passion, John Paul urges interested students to attack their acting career like a business and find your niche; anyone can get a video up online today, but more importantly, how do you go about getting the right people to see it?

>> Well, I'm kind of a multi-faceted actor. I've done some theater. But mostly solo work. A couple years ago I decided to write a solo show. And that's kind of become a venue of performance for me. I do voice-over, animation, video games, commercials. Industrial stuff like that. That's my -- that's kind of my favorite thing to do. I've done some on camera. And it's fun. But I think, you know, my -- I really just like the immediacy of an audience. And I also like the community that comes with doing voice-over the most. But I've kind of done a little bit of everything. As far as writing goes, I wrote the show. I've also written some short films, some plays that have been produced hither and yon around the country and everything. And so the show's called "Donna/Madonna." It was a piece that I wanted to do for a while. It's an autobiographical piece about -- I'm adopted. And my mom, the woman that raised me, is very much like Donna Reed. She's very much a traditional American housewife. I -- about seven or eight years ago, I met my birth mother. She's a fashion columnist, and she's married to a British pop star. And she's just all sorts of weird and wacky. So she's very Madonnaish. And so the show is very much about how the two very different personalities sort of shaped who I am today. And how my relationship with them has helped me to grow. So I did the -- I wrote the show. I did a little bit here in L.A. I toured with it. I did it in French festivals in New York and San Francisco. I did it on a cruise ship, which was interesting. Yeah. So it's been a wonderful opportunity to not only share my story and to kind of bring awareness to adoption and stuff like that. But also just to kind of open people up to other facets of what I do as an actor. [ Silence ]
